Charity auction announced to raise money to save historic Connecticut dairy farm.
Morning radio host, Brad Davis, to assist the Friends of Town Farm Dairy ÂDivine Bovine Auction and Dinner Dance at Avon Old Farms in October.
In support of their efforts to rescue Town Farm Dairy in Simsbury from having to close down forever, the Friends of Town Farm Dairy, a group of concerned citizens, has scheduled the event for Friday evening, October 21, 2005 at Avon Old Farms Inn, Route 44, Avon, CT. Auction items large and small, offered in both open and silent auction formats, will raise money needed to establish Town Farm Dairy as a non-profit working model farm for educational, environmental, and community services activities. WDRC-AM1360Âs morning host, Brad Davis, will be the celebrity auctioneer.
In addition to the charity auction/dinner dance, the Friends of Town Farm Dairy will share an exhibition space with Simsbury Bank at Septemberfest, September 9-11 in Simsbury, CT to reach out and inform the public of their efforts to save the farm.
Town Farm Dairy was purchased by Amos Eno after the Civil War and then deeded to the Town of Simsbury with the proviso that it would be a farm for the poor. Today Town Farm Dairy is certified fully organic; both the land and cows have earned certification. As part of the preservation plans, the farm will be available to agriculture students from area colleges to study organic dairy farming techniques and to area public and private schools for educational purposes.
For additional information on the events mentioned above, Town Farm Dairy itself, and the plans to preserve and operate the farm, please contact Patty Alfieri.
The Friends of Town Farm Dairy is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation dedicated to saving and preserving Town Farm Dairy. FTFD has the support of the Simsbury Board of Selectman and the greater Simsbury community. The mission of the Friends of Town Farm Dairy is to preserve Town Farm Dairy as an environmentally sound, sustainable, working dairy farm, providing education, building community support, and serving the needs of the local community and its poor.
